The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team raised their record to 11-3 on the season Monday with a 15-0, three-inning victory over the Bradford Lady Owls at the SMAHS softball field.
The Lady Dutch used the one-hit pitching of freshman Andria Copelli to record the win. Copelli gave up a single in the top of the first inning. She walked two and struck out six.
Rylee Lundgren worked the three innings for Bradford, giving up 10 hits, walking three and striking out two.
The Lady Dutch offense was led by Kali Quagliani with a double and two singles. Erica Sorg had two singles, while Mia Keener and Ashlee Johnston each had a double. Courtney Bankovich, Cassie Wonderling and Taylor Bellina all added singles.
“Andria Copelli picked up her first varsity win today. She pitched well for only being a freshman with limited varsity experience,” said St. Marys coach Manny Gerarge. “It was nice to be able to get some of our less experienced players in a varsity contest.”
“Now we get ready for Brookville on Tuesday,” he added.
Bradford left two runners stranded in the top of the first inning as Rylee Lundgren reached on an error and Lexy Pascarella recorded the lone single for the Lady Owls. Sorg led off the home half of the inning with a walk. Quagliani doubled, scoring Sorg. Copelli was hit by a pitch, as was McGowan. A double by Keener scored Quagliani and courtesy runner Ashlee Johnston. Raelyn Cunningham reached base on a fielder’s choice, allowing courtesy runner Courtney Bankovich to score. Wonderling reached base on a third dropped strike. Bellina walked to load the bases. Savanah Krivonyak reached base on an error, scoring Cunningham. A single by Sorg scored Wonderling. A single by Quagliani scored both Bellina and Krivonyak. Sorg scored on an infield out, as did Quagliani, and the Lady Dutch took an 11-0 lead after the first inning.
Bradford left two runners on base in the top of the second. In the home half of the inning, Bellina singled with two outs. Johnston reached base on an error. A single by Sorg scored Bellina and a single by Quagliani scored Johnston and gave St. Marys the 13-0 lead.
The Lady Owls went down in order in the top of the third. In the home half of the inning, Bankovich reached base on an infield out with one out. She advanced to second and third on wild pitches and scored on an infield out. With two outs, Wonderling singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Bellina drew a walk and Johnston doubled to score Wonderling to end the game with the mercy rule in effect as St. Marys won 15-0.
The Lady Dutch are in action this afternoon as they host the Brookville Lady Raiders at 4 p.m. at the SMAHS softball field.
