Lady Dutch softball shuts out Brookville Lady Raiders 9-0

SMA travels to Bradford today

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team raised their record on the season to 12-4 with a 9-0 victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders Tuesday afternoon at the SMAHS softball field.
The Lady Dutch return to action this afternoon when they travel to Bradford to take on the Lady Owls at 4:15 p.m.
The Lady Dutch pounded out 12 hits in the game. Mia Keener had a double and two singles, while Erica Sorg had a double and a single. Raelyn Cunningham had two singles. Jackie Lenze doubled while Andria Copelli, Cassie Wonderling, Kelsey Fritz and Courtney Bankovich all singled.
“It took us a while to get adjusted to Brookville’s pitching after Monday’s game with Williamsport. It is a different style of pitching,” said St. Marys coach Manny Gerarge. “Overall, it was a good win. We played solid defense and got solid performances from both pitchers. We also got some girls some varsity experience.”
Rachel Ginther started on the mound for St. Marys, going four innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven. Andria Copelli worked three innings, giving up one hit and striking out four.
Brookville left a runner stranded in the top of the first inning. The Lady Dutch went down in order in their half of the inning. Brookville went down in order in the top half of the second inning. With one out in the home half of the inning, Keener singled and Cunningham reached base on an infield single. A sacrifice fly to right by Wonderling moved the runners up a base, but they were left stranded.
The top of the third found the Lady Raiders leaving a runner on base. Savanah Krivonyak reached base on an error to start the home half of the inning. Sorg singled and Quagliani walked to load the bases. Krivonyak scored on an infield out. Hayley McGowan reached base on an error, allowing Sorg and Quagliani to score. A double by Keener scored courtesy runner Ashlee Johnston. A single by Cunningham scored Keener, giving St. Marys the 5-0 lead.
After the first runner reached base in the top of the fourth inning, Ginther struck the next three batters out. Sorg led off the home half of the inning with a double. Quagliani walked. Both scored on infield outs as St. Marys took the 7-0 lead.
Copelli struck out the side in the top of the fifth. In the home half of the inning, the Lady Dutch left two runners stranded.
Brookville left a runner on base in the top of the sixth inning. Copelli led off the home half of the inning with a single. With one out, Lenze doubled, sending Copelli to third. With two outs, Wonderling singled, scoring both Copelli and Lenze. Wonderling was left stranded as St. Marys led 9-0.
Brookville went down in order in the top of the seventh as the Lady Dutch recorded the 9-0 victory.
