The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team handed the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks a 5-4 loss Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS tennis courts.
At first singles, SMA’s Amy Orr defeated Amber Ward 6-1, 6-0.
Aubrey Wiesner of SMA defeated Lauren Wolfe 6-1, 6-1 at second singles.
At third singles, Kylie Krise of Punxsy defeated Danielle McCoy 6-0, 6-0.
At fourth singles, Jaelene Burkett of Punxsy defeated Megan McCoy 6-0, 6-0.
At fifth singles, Punxsy’s Laura Chelgren defeated Madison Squires, who was playing in her first singles match, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
“I was very pleased with how Madison played her second set battling all the way, trying to send it to a third-set tiebreaker,” said St. Marys coach Sue Lepovetsky.
At first doubles, SMA’s Aubrey Wiesner and Amy Orr defeated Amber Ward and Lauren Wolfe 8-6.
At second doubles, Kylie Krise and Jaelene Burkett of Punxsy defeated Kelsea Kerner and Christian Harlan 8-1.
Punxsutawney had to forfeit third and fourth doubles due to the lack of players.
“It was nice to pick up a win today. The girls did well,” said Lepovetsky.
St. Marys, now 3-4 on the season, will host Bradford Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in a make-up match.
