The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team opened their season Monday by defeating the Brockway Lady Rovers by an 8-1 score at the SMAHS courts.
At first singles, Amy Orr of the Lady Dutch won by a 10-0 score over Taylor Hepler.
Aubrey Wiesner of the Lady Dutch defeated Anna Brinkley by a 10-0 score at second singles.
At first doubles, Brockway’s Taylor Hepler and Taryn Licatovich defeated Danielle McCoy and Emiley Challingsworth by an 8-1 score.
“Brockway had to forfeit fourth and fifth singles and second, third and fourth doubles due to the lack of players. They only have six members and three could only play due to injuries on the team,” said St. Marys coach Sue Lepovetsky.
“We also played pro sets in singles due to the weather. The girls were glad to finally have their first match even though a few only got to play,” said Lepovetsky.
“We are looking forward to our next match with Punxsutawney on Thursday at Punxsy,” she added.
That match will start at 3:30 p.m.
