The Ridgway Lady Elker soccer team edged the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad by a 3-2 score Saturday morning in a match played at the SMAHS soccer field.
The Lady Dutch started out on the right foot as they took the early lead, only to see Ridgway tie the game at halftime and get the winner about midway through the second half.
St. Marys got on the board with 32:05 left in the first half as Stephanie Yetzer squeezed one in past the Ridgway keeper as St. Marys took the 1-0 lead.
Ridgway came back and at the 27:03 mark, Rhianon Fowler scored to knot the match at 1-all.
The Lady Elkers took the lead with 15:58 left in the first half as Courtney Bush scored, making the score 2-1.
St. Marys was able to tie the match at 2-all when Yetzer scored again, this time from the right side to knot the game.
A shot by the Lady Elkers at the buzzer just missed the mark.
Ridgway had eight shots on goal to St. Marys’ four in the first half. Each team had one corner kick.
In the early part of the second half, St. Marys pressured the Ridgway defense. Yetzer had a shot go just wide of the goal around the 37-minute mark.
With 21:50 left in the match, Fowler scored, again giving the Lady Elkers the 3-2 lead.
Neither team scored the remainder of the game, and the Lady Elkers won 3-2.
Ridgway outshot St. Marys 15-7 in the second half, while the Lady Elkers had two corner kicks and the Lady Dutch one.
The two keepers, Mia Keener of the Lady Dutch and Alyson Dybowski of the Lady Elkers, both did good jobs in the second half. Keener had eight saves while Dybowski had four.
St. Marys, now 8-7 on the year, will travel to Punxsutawney this afternoon for a 4 p.m. match with the Lady Chucks.
