Lamont H. Gray

Lamont H. Gray, 84, of River Road, Weedville, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 18, 1926, in Sterling Run, son of the late Harry W. and Edith D. (Ives) Gray.
He married Valjean (Wonderling) Gray, who survives. The couple enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the European and American Theaters and aboard the USS Providence. He worked as a barber in Caledonia for many years and as a carpenter for a local union for Burke Brothers for 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed raising cattle and doing small jobs with his backhoe and other equipment. He was a lifelong resident of Bennetts Valley.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lamont E. Gray of Byrnedale and Robert R. Gray of Weedville; two brothers, Harry Gray of Caledonia and Milton Gray of Caledonia; a sister, Thelma Swackhammer of Caledonia; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores "Dee" Mceli and one in infancy; and a brother, Ernest Gray.
Funeral services for Lamont H. Gray will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, with Pastor Luther Nelson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests donations to Hahne Cancer Center.
