Lawrence J. Ogden, 78, of 863 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, died Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born December 25, 1934 in Kane, son of the late Lawrence D. and Catherine Devereaux Ogden. On August 22, 1958 in Salamanca, N.Y., he married Julia A. Roberts, who survives.
He was a graduate of Wilcox High School, Class of 1954, and had lived in St. Marys since 1959. He was a retired employee of Carbon Graphite, retiring in 1997 after 38 years of service.
Mr. Ogden was a member of the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee. He served in the National Guard from 1958 to 1969. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his dog, Rudy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Glenda Whalen (Carl Jr.) of Treasure Lake, Katherine Manno (Joseph) of Johnstown, and Nancy Ogden of Beaverdale; two sons, James S. Ogden of St. Marys and John R. Ogden (Amy) of Ridgway; and nine grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Ogden, who died in 2010.
Family and friends of Lawrence J. Ogden are invited to attend funeral services to be held in the Shiloh Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 8 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Scott Wiest, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
There will be no visitation.
