LeRoy Swanson

LeRoy Swanson, 84, of 151 Dagus Mines Rd., Kersey, died Thursday evening, January 27, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 18, 1927 in Dagus Mines, a son of the late Frederick and Christine Mosier Swanson.
On Feb. 7, 1948 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, he married the late Marcella Geitner Swanson, who preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2005.
Mr. Swanson was a lifelong resident of Kersey and worked at Speer Carbon Company prior to entering the service.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific. Following the war, he and his twin brother, Robert, started the Dagus Mines Garage, which they owned and operated for many years. He was a member and Past Commander of the Dagus Mines American Legion and was also a member of the Kersey Eagles. Years ago, he enjoyed traveling the area with his wife while she played in a country western band. He also enjoyed hunting, gambling and trips to Salamanca.
He is survived by a son, Richard Swanson and his fiance, Sharon Tripp of Kersey; two daughters, Mary Ann, Mrs. Thomas Wilhelm of Kersey, and Jane, Mrs. Charles Struble of Kersey; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 57 years, he was preceded in death by twin sons in infancy and his twin brother, Robert Swanson, who preceded him in death in 2009.
Funeral services for LeRoy Swanson will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael St., St. Marys, on Monday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Erik Hart officiating.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. 
Full military honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the Maria Lutheran Cemetery in Kersey.
