ST. MARYS - The Bucktail Archers, in conjunction with the St. Marys Sportsmen's Club and Bowfishing Association of America, recently held a two-day event in order to raise money for Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation, Inc. Attendees were given the opportunity to participate in a 3D Archery Shoot, Bowfishing Pond Shoot, Trap Competition and a 50/50 Archer Contest. In addition to those activities, tickets were sold for a Hunt of a Lifetime tapestry blanket, cash/bore hunt, compound bow and a digital trail camera. Tickets were also sold for gift baskets in a Sportsman’s Raffle and additional chances were purchased for a Big "12" Raffle. A 50/50 cash drawing and silent bidding action were also held. The event truly had something for everyone.
Due to the overwhelming response of community businesses and friends, a contribution in the amount of $9,000 was presented to Rusty Davis, who is an ambassador for Hunt of a Lifetime. Rusty was amazed at the amount raised locally, and stated that every dollar makes a difference in making a child’s dream come true. He said there are not enough words to completely describe how deeply the lives of some terminally ill children will be touched by the events that Hunt of a Lifetime will be able to provide through the money raised by area groups and individuals who participated in the fundraising activities.
Rusty acknowledged all of the clubs and businesses that were involved, along with all of the workers who showed up before, during and after the event. According to Rusty, the money could not have been donated at a better time because fall season is the busiest time for Hunt of a Lifetime. The foundation has been very busy coordinating trips for several terminally ill children and their funds were getting low. The foundation currently has three terminally ill children from Pennsylvania signed up for hunting or fishing adventures of a lifetime. All children who are granted a wish will have the opportunity to be accompanied by a guest. The organization always does their best to ensure that all expenses related to the trip are covered, including the taxidermy work if an animal is harvested. Proper hunting equipment is donated by Hunt of a Lifetime, gun shops or larger sporting companies. Anything that is needed is totally taken care of by donations and the support of area communities.
According to information on www.huntofalifetime.org, Hunt of a Lifetime has become a national organization with ambassadors in over 40 states. The organization is a nonprofit charity foundation whose mission is to grant hunting and fishing adventures to youth age 21 and under who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.
