Magdalene B. Hacherl, 100, of 523 Vine St., St. Marys, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 25, 1912, in St. Marys, daughter of the late George B. and Barbara Krellner Herzing. In September of 1933, she married Herbert E. Hacherl in the St. Mary's Church and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2001.
Mrs. Hacherl was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1931. She was a member of the Queen of the World Church, loved doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards, and enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Grace Schlimm of St. Marys and Marlene Nussbaum of St. Marys; two sons, Richard Hacherl and his wife Peggy of Lansdale and David Hacherl of Kenai, Alaska; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ermont Herzing of St. Marys and Mary Gerg of St. Marys.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Bish in 1999; five sisters, Helen Herzing, Leona Valentine, her twin sister Marie Schaefer, Monica Herzing, and Frances Buchheit; and by a brother, Leroy "Buzz" Herzing. She was the last member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Magdalene B. Hacherl will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas More, OSB, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20 from 6-8 p.m.
