Margaret P. Smith

Margaret P.  Smith, 87, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 185 Center St., died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born July 20, 1923 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late John and Philomena "Minnie" Sweener Ott. On March 23, 1943 in St. Mary's Church, she married the late William R. Smith.
Mrs. Smith was a lifetime resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. She was a former employee at Ames Department Store in St. Marys. She was also a member of St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed bingo and playing cards. She also enjoyed visiting the ill at Elk Haven, attending "Lunch with the Lord", watching the Atlanta Braves, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by two daughters, Bernice "Sis", Mrs. Duane "Duey" Geitner of Ridgway, and Donna, Mrs. Christopher Sweezy of St. Marys; a son, Robert L. Smith and his wife Janice of St. Marys; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William R. Smith Jr.; five sisters, Regina Cole, Helen Gnan, Rose Smithbauer, Theresa Wonderly, and Alice Gardner; two brothers, George Ott in childhood and William Ott, and two sets of twin brothers in infancy; and by a great-grandson, Axel Lee Craig.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret P. Smith will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Church Street, St. Marys, on Tuesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson OSB as celebrant.
Burial will be in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5-8 p.m.
