October 26, 2012

Mary E. Knepp, 92, of 185 Center Street, Elk Towers, St. Marys, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born July 15, 1920 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Chessaro and Louise Ortense Bologna. On Jan. 31, 1949 in Lewistown, she married Edward L. Knepp, who preceded her in death on March 8, 1956.
Mary was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1939. She led a remarkable life, having served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the WWII Victory Medal as well as the American Service Medal. She loved to travel, visiting many of the lower 48 states during her life and living in Hollywood, Calif. with her young family for a number of years. She was fortunate enough to travel to Mexico, Canada, Italy, England, and finally realized her dream of visiting Ireland in 2007. She also loved to dance. Mary was an incredible baker and if you were lucky, you were the recipient of one of her banana breads, undeniably the best recipe ever.
She is survived by two children, Kenneth E. (Donna) Knepp of Kersey and Kathleen Knepp (David) Daileda of Springfield, Va.; five grandchildren, Michael Knepp, Joshua Knepp, Angela Knepp, Colin Daileda and Kyle Daileda; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Bologna; and four sisters, Betty Salvatore, Mildred Nicolo, Josephine Allison and Louise Mattiuz. She was the last member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. Knepp will be held in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
