Mary Louise Krieg, 84, of Elco Glen, St. Marys, and formerly of 138 Queens Rd., St. Marys, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 17, 1926 in Ford City, daughter of the late Edward L. and Anna McGinley Shields.
On March 3, 1945, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married George R. Krieg, who preceded her in death on July 11, 2001.
Mrs. Krieg was raised in St. Marys and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was a retired employee of AAA and in her early years, worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of the Queen of the World Church, where she was a former choir member for many years. She also enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by four daughters, Elaine Smith and her husband Jack of Davidson, N.C., Kathleen Trumbull of Bellefonte, Susan (William) Parana of Hendersonville, N.C., and Lois Krieg and her husband Anthony VanDivner of Kersey; one son, Daniel R. Krieg of Hanover; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Bernard Shields of St. Marys, Thomas J. Shields and his wife Kay of St. Marys, and Richard Shields and his wife Phyllis of Kane.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, John E. "Jack" Krieg, who died June 15, 2011; four sisters, Margaret "Maggie" Schreiber, Dorothy Jones, Mercedes Krieg, and Irene O'Brien; and two brothers, James Shields and Archie Shields.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Louise Krieg will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 - 8 p.m.
