Maurice J. Mullaney

Maurice J. Mullaney, 87, of 312 North Michael St., St. Marys, died Saturday morning, June 2, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 22, 1924 in St. Marys, and was the son of the late Patrick H. and Charlotte R. Spangler Mullaney.
On Oct. 27, 1951, in the St. Mary’s Church, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Samick. She died on March 17, 2003, after 51 years of marriage.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated high school from St. Vincent Abbey in Latrobe in 1943. Upon graduation, he served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a member of the United States Navy. When he returned home from service, he was employed at Keystone Carbon Company for 43 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a devout Roman Catholic and an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and a member of the choir. He and his wife Betty were very involved in the Cursillo ministry for many years. While a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, he was an active member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This organization was dedicated to assisting those in need and seeking charity and justice. He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by three sons, Kevin E. Mullaney and his wife Cely of Flagstaff, Ariz., Mark T. Mullaney and his wife Regina of Philadelphia, and Paul M. Mullaney and his wife Tara of Curwensville; four daughters, Mary Ellen Williams and her husband John of Virginia Beach, Va., Christine A. Brennan and her husband Thomas of Raleigh, N.C., Leah M. Wortman of Raleigh, N.C., and Michele K. Lenze and her husband Daniel of Summerfield, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his dog, Beau. He is also survived by two brothers, John (Jack) Mullaney and his wife Therese of St. Marys and James (Jim) Mullaney and his wife Roberta of St. Marys, as well as a brother-in-law, John Kosco of St. Marys; and a sister-in-law, Louise Samick of St. Marys.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen T. Mullaney and his wife Cece; three sisters, Patricia (Patty) Mullaney, Margaret (Peggy) Kelly and Mary Kosco; and one brother, Kevin Mullaney.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Maurice J. Mullaney will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
