New law requires training for mandated reporters of suspected child abuse

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State, additional focus has been placed on the state’s Child Protective Services law and mandated reporting requirements for suspected child abuse under that law.
According to the state Department of Public Welfare (DPW), any professional who engages with children in their employment, occupation or professional practice is known as a “mandated reporter” and is obligated by law to report suspected child abuse.
