New LIFT service helps people gain work experience

ST. MARYS - A new service offered by Life and Independence for Today (LIFT) will help people with disabilities gain valuable work experience and give them an insight into different careers. The Pre-Vocation Experience (PVE) program is designed to give participants the opportunity to experience different jobs and see if they are a good fit. According to Charles Lee, LIFT’s pre-vocational assistant, LIFT identifies people who would like to join the workforce and partners them with local businesses, school districts and various worksites for a brief three-hour work experience at a participating employer. "It allows an individual to go out to a worksite to see what the job is like before having to commit," Lee said. "The main goal of this is to give the individual the skills and the knowledge to make better decisions in the future. That's the whole key of the program."
