n keeping with tradition South St. Marys Street Elementary introduced a torch relay as part of the school's annual Olympic Games.
After hearing about the new idea, Todd and Kim Taylor, longtime Olympic volunteers, decided to expand on the idea and create a real torch for the games.
"We wanted to do something special for the school and for the Olympics," Todd said.
With the help of his co-workers at Quala-Die, a group of about eight people churned the aluminum and brass torch out in six hours.
The impressive creation weighs about five pounds and stands nearly two feet tall not including its matching base with the phrase "Let the Games Begin" engraved on it. An orange and yellow tissue paper flame tops the torch.
