Norma M. Gallagher

Norma M. Gallagher, 82, of Benezette, died Friday, May 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys.
She was a life-long resident of Benezette, having been born in Benezette on December 16, 1930, to the late Marie M. (O’Brien) and John F. Showers.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Benezette and later a member of St. Joseph Church in Force. She was a graduate of Benezette High School and on September 21, 1948, married Gerald L. Gallagher in Tyler. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1985.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, her home, shopping for her family, listening to the music of Danny O’Donnell, dancing, attending baseball games, and watching the elk herd and conversing with those who came to view the elk. For more than 20 years she drove school students from Winslow Hill to their bus stop in Benezette.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and John A. Miller of Kersey; her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Kim and Barbara Gallagher of Brockway (Singing Hills); and grandchildren Katie, Patrick, Megan, and Michael B. Gallagher and Jamie Miller. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her devoted companion and caregiver of the last several years, Montie Allen of Coal Center.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Jack) and William (Bill) Showers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma M. Gallagher will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Force with Father Thomas Tyler as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Cecilia Cemetery, Benezette.
Visitation will be held at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield on Tuesday, May 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
