Oscar L. Shugars

Oscar L. Shugars, 89, of Penfield and formerly of Brockport, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born November 19, 1923 in Wilcox, son of the late Oliver and Madaline (Pontious) Shugars.
She married Ruth (Arnold) Shugars and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1998. He married his second wife Leona Shaffer (Starr) Shugars on July 14, 2001 and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Armored Division.
He was a truck driver for most of his life. He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Brockway and the American Legion Post #511 of Dagus Mines. He loved the outdoors and reloading shells.
In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a son, Nickalos Oliver and Sandra Shugars of Penfield; three grandchildren, Nickalos Oliver and Kathleen Shugars Jr., Cheri Lynn and Chris Beer, and Denise Marie and Troy Young; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Charles Shugars.
Funeral Services for Oscar L. Shugars will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield with the Reverend Thomas Henretty officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Bennett's Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
Interment will be in McKean Memorial Park in Lafayette.
Visitation is at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield on Tuesday, July 24 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 25 from 10-11 a.m.
