Paul Joseph “Bogie” Biel
Paul Joseph “Bogie” Biel, 62, of Old Kane Road, Wilcox, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, during the course of one of his favorite hobbies.He was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Ridgway, son Olga (Damier) Biel of Wilcox, and the late Vincent Biel.On Oct. 14, 1972, he married Donna Zawatski, who survives.He graduated from Johnsonburg High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1974. He was a drill sergeant and received the Combat Infantry badge, Army Commendation medal, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal and the Bronze Star. He was employed at the Johnsonburg Paper Mill for the past 38 years. He was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wilcox, Wilcox Sportsmen's, Wilcox American Legion, VFW, Piedmont Club, Central Hose Company, and the Rolfe Sportsmen's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, Harley riding and especially time with his family and friends at his famous Wilcox Pond and Pool parties. He lived all his life in Wilcox.Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Theresa Biel and her partner, Russ Counts of Kane; a son, Jeff Biel and his wife, Tina of Wilcox; a granddaughter, Skylar Rose Biel; a brother, James V. Biel of Wilcox; and a sister, Olivia Biel of Wilcox.Funeral services for Paul Biel will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home in Johnsonburg, with Father David Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Parklawn Memorial Cemetery in Ridgway.Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Servicemen who are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:45 a.m.Visitation will be at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
