JOHNSONBURG – Perry Swanson of Kane has been named as the "2012 Logger of the Year."
He received the award Tuesday evening at the 44th annual Loggers and Saw-millers Safety Meeting at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall. More than 100 attended the two-hour program sponsored by the Kane-based Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group (AHUG).
"I'm extremely proud and very honored to receive the award," Swanson said. "I've always wanted to be a logger. Luckily, my dream came true."
A 1989 graduate of Kane Area High School, Swanson has been in the logging business for 23 years. He is contracted to Kane Hardwood. Swanson has been trained under the PA Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and has not had a "loss time" accident.
"Logging is a way of life for Perry and it is evident in both his production and his land ethic," AHUG said in announcing his nomination for the award.
