Police pursue grants for staffing, equipment

June 20, 2014

The City of St. Marys Police Department was approved to apply for two grants which would update equipment and help fund a new officer position.
An application was approved for the COPS Hiring Grant Program, administered through the U.S. Department of Justice, which would provide $125,000 over a three-year timeframe. This funding covers the $42,000 base salary for a new officer, however the city is responsible for benefit and retirement costs.
