Police report update in handgun investigation

ST. MARYS - The St. Marys City Police Department reports investigating Wednesday's incident of a report of a subject who may have been in possession of a handgun. Police have identified the individual as a juvenile playing with an airsoft gun while waiting for transportation to school.
Police responded to a suspicious person report near Kerner Avenue and Louis Street at approximately 8:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. The report indicated that the subject in question might be in the possession of a handgun. According to police, city and area law enforcement officials conducted an investigation while area schools and Elk Regional Health Center went into lockdown. The City Police were assisted at that time by Elk County Sheriff Department deputies, Ridgway Borough Police and Johnsonburg Borough Police.
