“We did not have a full team performance tonight. Three quarters of our team wrestled well. We need a full team effort to win these kinds of matches. Port Allegany is a good team with solid wrestlers,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra.
“Evan (Smith) and Trenton (Bowers) wrestled well and Damien (Wensel) had a gutsy win. Allan (Gursky) had a gutsy win and stuck with our game plan.
“We had kids wrestle really well. Our three freshmen had their inexperience show tonight against some veteran kids.
“We’re learning and getting better.”
In junior varsity action, Alex Feldbauer of the Dutch lost by a pin to Tyler Schaefer at the 1:04 mark of their 145-pound match. Kyle Wolfel recorded an 11-5 decision over Cole Caulkins at 171 pounds.
