Power company changes minimal despite name change

FirstEnergy completed its merger with Allegheny Power back in late February, and while the old West Penn Power name has made its return, reportedly little else will change.
Tom Kearney, area manager for West Penn Power/FirstEnergy, said the office location along state Route 120 [Ridgway-St. Marys Road] will remain there and he hopes employees can continue providing reputable service to the community.
"Our office is still right up the road here toward St. Marys, and really nothing locally is going to change much except for my opportunities," Kearney said. "In the past, I've been responsible for the operations of about a seven-county area, including Elk County.
"With the merger with First Energy, they would like to have a much more prominent community presence than Allegheny [Power] did; therefore, my position was created as area manager."
Kearney said he is looking forward to his new responsibilities that come with the position.
