Preparedness Fair around the corner
Event organizer Sue Shick and others are preparing for the Third Annual Preparedness Fair, scheduled for Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1159 Shelvey Summit Rd.The opening speaker this year is Oak Norton, who served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for 24 years as an intelligence officer."[Norton] briefly served in Germany with the Army when we suspected that the Russians seemed to be engaged in suspect activities on the border," Shick said. "He then returned to the states, where he was asked to enter the Air Force because of his specialty."He later returned to Germany for another tour and spent time in Vietnam."When Vietnam occurred, he had a short tour there for consulting purposes," Shick said. "Later he attended the Vietnamese language school for a year and was then returned to Vietnam for a second time for a full tour."Between the two tours in Vietnam, he spent several months in Thailand, where they were engaged with the enemy in Laos. He also served a year in Korea, two years in the Philippines, and a two-year tour in England, with several short tours in other countries."Norton retired in 1973 and set up a private investigative company involved in insurance fraud and security.
