Dutchman Justin Quiggle hit a buzzer beater last night at DuBois Central Catholic High School to give the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen a 53-52 victory over the DCC Cardinals.
“It came right down to the end. DuBois Central took the lead with five seconds left. We called a time out and got the ball to Justin Quiggle, who hit the shot with no time left to give us the win. We got a great ball screen from Ryan Mancuso,” said Dutch coach Mark Guido. “It worked just the way we drew it up.”
“It was a good game, well-played by both teams. At one point we were down by nine, but kept our composure,” said Guido.
The Dutch were led offensively by Dylan Reigel with 14 points on four twos, a three and a three-for-three night from the foul line. Justin Quiggle had 13 points on five twos and a three. Ryan Mancuso finished with 12 points on four field goals and a four-for-five night from the foul line.
DuBois Central was led by Chris Marshall with 15 points on seven field goals and a one-for-two night from the foul line. Jake Krause scored 14 points on seven field goals.
In the first period of play, both teams put 12 points on the scoreboard.
DuBois Central outscored the Dutchmen by a 15-14 margin in the second period of play to take a 27-26 halftime advantage.
The third period saw the Cardinals outscore the Dutch 16-12 to take a 43-38 lead with eight minutes remaining.
In the fourth quarter, the Dutch outscored the Cardinals 15-9 to win the game by the 53-52 score.
