Rams’ Grumley wins 9-AA golf title; ECC’s Eliott Struble takes second

Johnsonburg’s Cameron Grumley captured the District 9-AA individual golf championship on Saturday at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course, with Elk County Catholic’s Elliott Struble placing second.
After Monday’s first round, Struble and Josh Roselli of Ridgway had a two-stroke lead over Grumley. Struble and Roselli both shot 75s on Monday, while Grumley had a 77.
On Saturday, Grumley carded a 76 to win the title with a two-day total of 77-76-153. Struble had an 81 on Saturday for a total of 75-81-156. Taking third was Jason Thorp of Curwensville with a two-day total of 78-81-159. Roselli placed fourth with his 75-86-161 total.
The top eight golfers in Class AA advance to the PIAA Western Regional Tournament scheduled for Oct. 15 at Toms Run Country Club in Blairsville. From the Western Region, 20 AA golfers will advance to the PIAA state tournament scheduled for Oct. 21-23 at Heritage Hills in York.
Joining Grumley, Struble, Thorp and Roselli at the Western Regional will be Paul Etchepare of Cameron County 80-82-162, Jack Huggins of Brookville 81-82-163, T.J. Schlimm of Ridgway 81-82-163 and Mark Walker of DuBois Central 83-80-163.
Elk Catholic coach George Schneider said, “Elliott had a couple of rough holes, but he battled back. I’m proud of him and he’s only a junior, so he’ll be back next year.”
“We’re looking forward to Toms Run,” added Schneider.
Others competing in the AA tournament Saturday were Kal Logue of Austin 81-85-166, Cameron Kockler of Coudersport 80-87-167, Gary Fye of Forest Area 84-85-169, Mitchell Struble of Elk Catholic 82-89-171, Andrew Turk of Keystone 82-89-171, Owen Scrheiber of St. Marys Area 84-87-171 and Decklan Burkhart of Cranberry 84-89-173.
In Class AAA, Brandon Mancuso of Punxsutawney won the title with a two-day total of 80-84-164. Also qualifying for the AAA Western Regional was Mitch Faulkner of Bradford with his 79-87-166.
Other AAA golfers competing Saturday were Mike Blose of Punxsutawney 84-85-169, Ryan Strauss of Bradford 84-97-181, Kerry Maines of Clearfield 96-97-193, Steve Jacobson of DuBois Area 92-102-199 and Ricky Clark of Clearfield 96-118-214.
