Replacement sworn in at SMASD meeting

Monday's meeting of the St. Marys Area School District's Board of Directors saw Steve Aul of St. Marys was sworn in as the district's Region 2 representative. He was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Jesse Azzato. Azzato was elected to the position in the November elections, but submitted a letter of resignation prior to assuming his role. The appointment remains effective until the next municipal election in November 2013.
The meeting also included a vote on the offers to purchase and statements of just compensation from PennDOT for the temporary use of property belonging to the St. Marys Area School District in the undertaking of PennDOT's "Million Dollar Highway" project to improve the roadway was approved by board members at Monday night's meeting.
PennDOT is seeking right-of-way acquisitions required for construction, set to take place on section 813 of State Route 255, otherwise known as the Million Dollar Highway. The offers include compensation for temporary easement, which would grant PennDOT temporary use and/or control of properties on SR 255 belonging to the district that are also in the vicinity of St. Marys Area High School and South St. Marys Street Elementary School.
