Residents react to closing of convent

Photo by Amy Cherry The chapel inside St. Joseph Monastery has been a site of prayer and reflection for the Benedictine Sisters of Elk County throughout its 160 year history.

Following the recent announcement of the closing of St. Joseph Monastery in St. Marys current and former area residents have voiced their reaction to the news, a majority of which are of sadness and disappointment paired with fond memories of The Benedictine Sisters of Elk County and their contributions to the community.
"A tremendous loss for our community," said Chris Suchocki Gismondi while Mariann Grossman Bowser indicated she was "so sad to see something gone that has been there for years."
