Richard J. (Dick) Bauer Jr.

Richard J. (Dick) Bauer Jr. 83, of 14 Hauber Ave., St. Marys, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 12, 1928 in St. Marys, son of the late Richard J. and Marie Vollmer Bauer Sr. On February 26, 1954, in Buffalo, N.Y., he married Betty Lou Colson, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys parochial schools.
He was a retired employee of the Keystone Powdered Metal Co., retiring in 1990 after 42 years of service. He was now working for the Trout Run Secondary.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the St. Marys Moose Lodge and enjoyed camping, hiking, and playing cards, especially Cinch. He loved being around his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, liked birdwatching, loved his cat named Scotch and was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six daughters, Patty Groll (Mick) of St. Marys, Rose Geyer (Flip) of St. Marys, Elizabeth "Liz" Wholaver (Jim) of Harrisburg, April Stahl of Buffalo, N.Y., Darla Wolfel (Mike) of St. Marys, and Renee Bauer of Harrisburg; two sons, Joe Bauer of St. Marys and Mike (Tina) Bauer of St. Marys; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Kenneth Bauer of New York City, John "Bruce" Bauer of St. Marys and Gary "Steve" Bauer of St. Marys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Tucker.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard J. (Dick) Bauer Jr. will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Vogt OSB, pastor, as celebrant.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
