Richard L. "Dick" Clevenger Sr.

November 4, 2011

Richard L. “Dick” Clevenger Sr., of James City, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Kane Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born August 17, 1938, in Fisher, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Dorothy Rhodes Clevenger.
Mr. Clevenger served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960. Later in life, he joined the Army National Guard and served with the Kane Unit for 20 years. During that time they were deployed for service in support of Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.
He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and many other forms of recognition. He was very proud of his military career and will be honored with a private military burial.
He had various jobs throughout his lifetime, including many years at Stackpole Corp. in Kane. It was always interesting to hear him talk about his time spent on tug boats on the Delaware River. He also spent time with his children, hunting and fishing, which are pastimes they still enjoy today.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Jean Vollmer of James City; sons, Richard Clevenger Jr. of Kane and Benjamin (Sandra) Clevenger of Dover, Dela.; a daughter, Brenda (Wally) Howard of Hazel Hurst; three grandchildren, Alec Melcher, Daleen Howard and Georgiann Howard; and two sisters, Floyce Koehle of Langhorne, Pa., and Lettie Patrick of Arizona.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ben, Bud, Carl and Don; and a sister, Gertrude Couch.
Burial for Richard L. "Dick" Clevenger Sr. will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be sent to Letters from Home Program, P.O. Box 125, Johnsonburg, PA 15845; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
