Richard L. Polesky, 81, 797 Dill Hill Rd., Johnsonburg, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 17, 2011, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1929 in Elizabeth, N.J., son of Michael and Rose Fragale Poleski.
On Aug. 20, 1955 in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Norma R. Shannon, who preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2005.
Formerly of New Jersey, he resided in Johnsonburg since 1973.
He attended Linden High School in Linden, N.J., and also received a four-year college equivalency from the U.S. Army Training Center. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Ridgway Rifle Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gambler.
He was a Korean War-era veteran, having served as a Sergeant with the USASCS Regiment out of Fort Monmouth, N.J.
He was employed by IBM Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1986.
He is survived by two sons, Bill Spring and his wife Anne of Erie and Richard Polesky Jr. of Johnsonburg; two daughters, Patricia, Mrs. Greg Verno of Erie and Gloria, Mrs. David Molella of Johnsonburg; seven grandchildren, Keith Molella, Shannon Lego, Michelle Hitz, and Bill, Nick, Adam and Daniel Spring; three great- grandchildren, Brandon Lego, Julia Lego and Charlotte Hitz; and two sisters, Joan, Mrs. Jack Dalton of Cranford, N.J. and Patricia, Mrs. Bill Alcaro of Rumson, N.J.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Polaski and Donald Poleski; and a sister, Constance Poleski in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard L. Polesky will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor.
Interment will be private.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m.
