For the second time, the Ridgway community has once again been chosen to be featured on "Our Town" on WPSU public television.
The broadcast will air tonight, Thursday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. on channel 3 and online at www.wpsu.org.
"The show began in 1996 to highlight the great things happening in our Central Pennsylvania communities," said Jessica Peters, producer for Penn State Public Broadcasting in University Park. "This is the 68th show in the Our Town series, and our second visit to Ridgway. It has been since 2000 since we were in Ridgway last, and we decided that it was time to revisit the community for an update."
"Our Town" has long served as an opportunity for communities to get out their video cameras and share what is near and dear to them about the place they call "home."
It is also an effective promotional tool that invites other Pennsylvanians to come and visit our "neck of the woods," which can even result in increased business for local stores and even new residents.
"The great thing about this program is that it is 100-percent community volunteer-based," Peters said. "The only thing that we do is edit the pieces together. This really is a show that is told through the eyes of the residents themselves. Over the summer, community volunteers chose their story topics, gathered photos and video to illustrate their stories, and then sat down with our crew from WPSU to tell those stories on camera.
