The Ridgway Elkers earned a 3-stroke win Tuesday over visiting Elk County Catholic at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
ECC's Elliott Struble carded a 39 for the visiting Crusaders to take medalist honors but consistent scoring by the Elkers' top five earned the win.
Ridgway junior Josh Mitchell was the low round for the home team with 42; he was followed by senior Jordan Lundin with a 43. Ridgway sophomore Mitchell Gilmore followed with a 44 while senior Aaron Sorge, in his second season with the team, and freshman T.J. Schlimm fired a pair of 45s for a team score of 219.
To complement Elliott Struble's 39 was Jess Jaynes and Mitchell Struble with a pair of 46s, and Brandon Schlimm with 48 for a total team score of 222.
Ridgway senior Eric Matheson, a two-year letterman for the Elkers, scored a 47 while freshman Josh Roselli fired a 49. Sophomore Jake Klawuhn was the last Ridgway golfer on the course and scored a 51.
ECC's final three golfers who did not make the team top five was Bruno Cavalline with 49, Kristy Hanes with 53 and Bryan Haberberger with 59.
"It was a nice win against a good team," said Ridgway head boys golf coach Dave Zawatski. "Until we get someone to step up and become a horse and challenge the top players in our league, we are going to have to use our depth and scratch and claw to beat the better teams.
"Mitchell Gilmore showed our depth [Tuesday] as he shot a 44 out of the No. 6 slot. I am very pleased that Mitchell [Gilmore] came through when we needed him."
The win ups Ridgway's record to 2-0 on the season. Elk Catholic will host Johnsonburg at Kane next Wednesday.
Ridgway is scheduled to host St. Marys at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
