Robert J. Foster, 69, of 124 Lafayette St., St. Marys, died Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Penn Highlands Elk Hospital.
He was born Feb. 15, 1945 in St. Marys, son of the late George J. and Helen Beimel Foster. On Feb. 14, 1970, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Mary L. Simbeck, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. He was employed as a former farmer, worked for the Stackpole Carbon Co., and retired from Industrial Steel. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, farm work, reading and working with mechanical things.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two daughters, Lisa Watson and her husband Michael of St. Marys, and Barbara Foster and her longtime companion Alvin Hasselman of St. Marys; a grandson, Parker Watson; six sisters, Agnes Bouse of Johnsonburg, Margaret Foster of St. Marys, Helen Zurfluh of St. Marys, Betty Kuntz of St. Marys, Dolly Dornisch of St. Marys and Grace Zuraski of Johnsonburg; and two brothers, Arthur Foster and his wife Martha of St. Marys and James Foster of St. Marys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Foster, in childhood, and by three brothers, George Foster, Richard Foster and Thomas Foster.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Robert J. Foster to be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Friday, March, 21 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, pastor as celebrant, and Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, as concelebrant. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
