Roof replacement work at schools upcoming

May 18, 2014

A new guidance counselor position, gym renovations, playground work, paving bids and personnel matters were just some of the topics discussed during a recent St. Marys Area School District board of directors meeting.
The district is advertising for a guidance counselor position with K-12 certification with the building to be determined.
"Guidance counselors do a lot more than career counseling anymore," SMASD Superintendent Ann Kearney said.
Kearney initially wanted to hire a social worker noting some school districts are going that route. However, after discussing the hire with the district's administrative team they recommended a guidance counselor would work better.
Currently the district's guidance counselors are inundated with requests for student services.
The administration will determine what school the new guidance counselor would be the best fit.
