Rudolph J. "Rudy" Pretak, 88, of 621 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Friday morning, Feb. 28, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 16, 1925 in Wilcox, son of the late Stephen and Mary Bursuda Pretak.
He married Mae E. Maiers on Feb. 18, 1950 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. She preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2000.
He resided in Wilcox all his life, attended Wilcox High School, and was a member of St. Anne's Church and the Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.
He was a WWII Navy veteran having served in the Pacific as a carpenter's mate with the 134th Naval Construction Battalion where he received the Pacific Theater Ribbon with one star, the American Theater Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Star.
He had been employed by the B&O Railroad, Holgate Toy Company and the Allegheny National Forest. He retired from Penntech Papers of Johnsonburg in 1982 after 41 years of service.
He is survived by two sons, John Pretak and his wife Anita of Wilcox, and Roger Pretak and his wife Tracie of Wilcox; six grandchildren, John J. Pretak, Stacy R. Cozad, Buffy, Justin and Caitlyn Pretak, and Bailey Pretak; six great-grandchildren, Dayanna Pretak, Vladimyr Pretak, Rykki, Lexi and Karli Tucker, and Janessa Pretak; two step-great-grandchildren, Nathan Cozad and Sebastian McKown; one sister, Agnes Whipple of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Pretak; and sisters Josephine Shultz, Mary Graham, Helen Pretak, and siblings Ann Pretak and Stephen Pretak, both in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rudolph J. Pretak will be conducted at St. Anne's Church, Wilcox on Tuesday, March 4 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, Pastor.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Rasselas.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, Pa. on Monday evening, March 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Wilcox-Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail Members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
