Ruth Baumgratz Hasselman

Ruth Baumgratz Hasselman, 80, of 185 Center St., St. Marys, died at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys on Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012, of polycythemia vera.
She was born Aug. 25, 1931 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Barbara Skok Heiberger.
Ruth's first husband was Regis "Daisy" Baumgratz, whom she married June 8, 1957, died on July 13, 1993. Her second husband was Richard Hasselman, whom she married on Feb. 23, 2001; he preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2010.
She graduated from Central High School, Class of 1949. She retired from Airco Speer, where she worked in the accounting department for many years. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society for many years. Years ago, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of Queen of the World Church. She especially enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews and their children.
She is survived by three very special nieces, Carol Lanzel, Denise McAninch Stewart and Laura Pierce Kocjancic; and many other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; two brothers, Gilbert "Skip" (Archie) Heiberger of St. Marys, and Alan "Buck" Heiberger of St. Marys; a brother-in-law, Robert Pierce of Ridgway; and five step-children, Amy, Laurie, Sandy, Terry and Tony.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Andrew Robert and Robert Joseph Baumgratz; and two sisters, Joan Pierce and Norma McAninch.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth Baumgratz Hasselman will be celebrated at the Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Rd., St. Marys, on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, St. Marys.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, tonight from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elk County Catholic School System, 114 Queens Rd., St. Marys, PA 15857; or to the Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Rd., St. Marys, PA 15857.
