School board approves business items

Members of the St. Marys Area School District Board of School Directors approved various items during their recent meeting.
Among them were the approval of Nathaniel J. Schmidt as the solicitor for the district for the 2011-2012 school year at a rate of $125 per hour.
The board approved the district's business manager to solicit bids for the following items for the 2011-2012 school year: general consumable supplies, art supplies, science supplies, kindergarten supplies, tech prep and industrial art supplies, school health supplies, tech prep health supplies, furniture and equipment. Bids will be awarded to the lowest bidder that meets the district's specifications or is an approved Costar vendor.
Bids were reviewed for the replacement of carpeting in the hallways of St. Marys Area High School and for rubber flooring at South St. Marys Street Elementary. The lowest bidder was submitted and approved from DeGol Carpet in Duncansville in the amount of $268,700. Additional bids were submitted by Mr. David's Flooring International from Itasca, IL in the amount of $272,000, Fairs Carpet, Inc. from Uniontown submitted a bid in the amount of $301,600 and Everything Underfoot Inc. of DuBois in the amount of $359,000.
A letter of agreement was approved between the school district and Dickinson Mental Health Center regarding the Student Assistance Program (SAP) and Signs of Suicide Program for the middle and high schools, as well as for the Life/Incredible Years program for the 2011-2012 school year.
The school board approved an agreement with Volz Environmental Services, Inc. of Pittsburgh to provide industrial hygiene consulting services during the renovation of the high school and middle school boiler rooms. The work is asbestos-related and includes two phases. Phase one will focus on design services and phase two on construction services involving inspecting the work area, conducting air sampling during abatement and having air samples tested at a laboratory. The cost for phase one is $2,400 and $800 for phase two.
