School board approves new lunch prices, contracts

The St. Marys Area School District Board of School Directors approved numerous business items Monday evening during their regular meeting.
Among the items approved were increases in lunch prices for the 2011-12 school year, including a five-cent increase for elementary student and 25 cents for middle and high school students, teachers and a la carte menu purchases.
The board appointed Ginger Williams as the assistant board secretary for a one-year duration and unanimously elected Patricia Rezmerski as the board treasurer under the Public School Code. Rezmerski's term will expire on July 1, 2011 and she will be compensated in the amount of $150.
In addition, the board approved the expulsion of one student.
Also approved was a proposal from the Elk Regional Professional Group to provide a school/athletic physician for the 2011-12 school year.
The following is a menu of services and their associated costs with the program: no charge for new, renewal, mandated, office or school-based physicals, event attendant $100 per event, special examination-brief $25, or special examination-extended, for the same amount and no charge for telephone consultations, training or lecturing.
Elk Regional is proposing initially a one-year agreement which would automatically renew for successive one-year periods unless either party would give 60 written days' notice to the other party prior to the expiration date of the initial term.
Other items approved by the board included the purchase of the Pennsylvania Income Tax Return information from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue for the 2009 tax year and of the the Academic Standards and Assessment Midpoint Review, which included the following information: 320 total employees, including 16 administrators (two of which are ARAMARK employees); 161 professional/instructional; 28 custodial/maintenance Aramark employees; and 115 support. The district encompasses an area of 300 square miles.
The advertisement of bids for two projects were approved: the replacement of carpeting at the middle school, with a projected cost of $32,000; and electrostatic painting of lockers at the high school, estimated to cost $25,000.
Bids for 47 cafeteria tables and 325 chairs were approved, with the winning bid awarded to School Outfitters of Cincinnati, Ohio, in the amount of $31,577.45.
