School board approves personnel

The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved several personnel issues at this month’s regular meeting.
All employment recommendations are provisional for 30 days pending receipt of Act 151 and Act 34 clearance documentation and pre-employment drug testing, if applicable.
A resignation was approved for Patricia McLaughlin of St. Marys from the St. Marys Area Middle School cafeteria, effective Jan. 28, 2011; and under supplemental contracts, Christopher Gankosky as marching band director at the end of the 2010-11 school year.
Rebecca Herbstritt of St. Marys was terminated as a special education aide at Bennetts Valley Elementary School, effective Jan. 19, 2011.
Five leaves of absences were approved.
Stephanie Brooks of Ridgway was hired as a long-term substitute teacher (professional personnel) at South St. Marys Street Elementary, effective Feb. 1, 2011. Brooks holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Maryland. Additionally, she is certified in elementary education.
Michele Romania of St. Marys was hired as a cafeteria worker (support personnel), effective Jan. 31, 2011.
The following professional substitute personnel were hired:
•Michael Anderson of St. Marys was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 19, 2011. Anderson holds a bachelor of science degree in education from Clarion University and is certified in elementary education.
•Samantha Beaver of Ridgway was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 11, 2011. Beaver holds a bachelor of science degree in education from Clarion University and is certified in elementary and early childhood education.
•Matthew Colwell of Emporium was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 14, 2011. Colwell holds a bachelor of arts degree in international studies from Lock Haven University and has an emergency permit for teaching.
•Noelle Dixon of St. Marys was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 14, 2011. Dixon holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh of Bradford and is certified in elementary education.
•Kristy Fox of St. Marys was hired to work at St. Marys Area high and middle schools, South St. Marys Street, Fox Township and Bennetts Valley elementary schools, effective Jan. 14, 2011. Fox holds a holds a bachelor of science degree in education from Clarion University and has her emergency permit for teaching.
•Ashley Mix of Kane was hired to work at St. Marys Area high school and middle schools, South St. Marys Street and Fox Township elementary schools, effective Jan. 31, 2011. Mix holds a holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh of Bradford and is certified in elementary education.
•Shane Mosier of Kersey was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 5, 2011. Mosier holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics/statistics from Penn State Behrend and has his emergency permit for teaching.
•Stephanie Schneider of St. Marys was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 14, 2011. She earned a master of business administration in curriculum and instruction-mathematics from the University of Phoenix. She has her emergency permit for teaching.
•Donald Trenn Jr. of Penfield was hired to work in all district buildings as of Jan. 5, 2011. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Clarion University and is certified in music.
Current SMASD teacher Stacey Brem of St. Marys was hired as a homebound teacher, effective Jan. 19, 2011
Supplemental contracts for the 2010-11 school year were awarded to:
•Patricia Armanini, intramural girls' basketball coach, new contract at a rate of $300.
•Paul Bellina, assistant girls' softball coach-head junior varsity, renewal contract at a rate of $1,200.
•Matthew Frank, drama club, renewal contract at a rate of $263 and as musical director renewal contract at a rate of $882.
•Brian Ginther, assistant softball coach, renewal contract at a rate of $1,323.
•Nancy Gerber, English department chairperson, renewal contract at a rate of $365.
•Dennis Hansen, assistant boys' tennis coach, new volunteer.
•Susan Lepovetsky, head boys' tennis coach, renewal contract at a rate of $1,702.
•Thomas Lyons, assistant girls' basketball coach - third and fourth grades, renewal volunteer.
•William Makufka, assistant softball coach, renewal volunteer.
•Shane Mosier, assistant boys' tennis coach, renewal volunteer.
In addition, two student lifeguards were also hired, including Shannon Krieg, Brittany Lynn Orr and Shelby Zomcik, on Feb. 1, 2011.
