School board honors victims of school shooting at meeting

The meeting also involved a lengthy discussion of financial problems facing the district's food service program in the wake of a new federal mandate. ST. MARYS - The first St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors meeting of 2013 began Thursday with moment of silence in honor of the victims of the December 14, 2012 shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn. This coincided with discussion of how the district might heighten security efforts and safety procedures in the wake of the tragic shooting, which claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults, teachers and staff at the school.
