The second annual Kick the Crap Out of MS Outhouse Races will be held on Saturday, May 14 from 2 to 7 p.m. on Market Street in St. Marys. Kevin O'Leary, event organizer, recently addressed members of the St. Marys City Council to request the city's assistance with the event.
O'Leary asked council members to close Market Street from the end of the street near the Diamond to the public parking area by Gunner's from 1 to 8 p.m. and requested that the City of St. Marys Police Department assist with closing off the designated portion of the roadway so that no traffic can enter the area. O'Leary also requested that council waive the open container law in a designated area at the event from 2 to 8 p.m.
He noted that the initial running of the event went very well.
"It went really well. We had about 10, I think, altogether," O'Leary said. "It was lousy weather, but we had a good crowd. The street was lined on both sides, so it was a good turnout."
He explained to council members that the purpose of the event is to raise funds to benefit MS patients in the local area. He also remarked that the necessary insurance had already been obtained to cover all participants in the event.
Council members approved O'Leary's requests regarding the outhouse races.
For more information on the event, contact O'Leary at 834-4425 or 594-3223; or Jessica Bauer at 834-1096 or 335-6571.
