Severe flooding damages Elk County

May 21, 2014

Torrential downpours overnight throughout Elk County closed or washed out several roadways, and damaged several vehicles and structures throughout Wednesday.
"This was a quick storm with a lot of water in a short period of time," said Mike McAllister, Elk County Emergency Services director. "We had a number of incidents countywide, from Highland Township to Jay Township, and in between, but Ridgway Borough really took the brunt of it."
Multiple county units participated in Wednesday's emergency response including two boat crews from Clearfield County and Mountaineer Search and Rescue out of Emporium. Both emergency response crews assisted with water rescues in Ridgway. Fire companies all throughout Elk County were hard at work all day along with other emergency responders.
