The workers in the St. Marys shops of the Pittsburg, Shawmut, and Northern Railroad, over time, earned quite a reputation for the quality of their work, according to local historian Ray Beimel.
During a recent presentation at the St. Marys Senior Center, Beimel explained that the railroad's shops were at one time located where the Depot Street parking garage currently stands.
Beimel remarked that while the appearance of the buildings was not impressive, the quality of the work conducted there was top-notch.
