SMA divers fare well at District 9 League diving championships

Three St. Marys Area Divers placed in the top four of the 2011 District 9 League Diving championships held on Friday evening at the St. Marys Area High School Natatorium.
Jake Burns of the Dutch recorded 402.30 points in his 11 dives to capture first place in the championship meet.
Teammate Justin Huey recorded 381.85 points to finish second, with Elliott Lauder of Clearfield taking third with 380 points.
Dutchman Tim Mosebarger finished fourth with 301.35 points, followed by Richard Clark of Clearfield, 277; Chris Thomason of DuBois Area, 275.30; Matt Holeva of DuBois, 257.60; and Andy Gilbert of Brookville with 217.90 points.
"I am really proud of our divers as they worked hard all season long and it paid off tonight," said Coach Eric Wonderling of the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen. "Jake Burns had a great night, as this was the first time this season that he was able to beat teammate Justin Huey. Justin and Tim also had good nights for us and Shannon Krieg did a good job on the girls' side."
The top diver for the girls in the meet was Kristin Day of DuBois Area with 402.95 points. She was followed by Jessica Shomo of Clearfield with 374.55 points and Misty Knapik of Clearfield with 296.75 points.
Placing fourth for the girls was Sarah Lowder of Clearfield with 276.70, with Brooklyn Ishman of DuBois taking fifth with 275.55 points. Arah Shaffer of DuBois was sixth with 253.45 points. Shannon Krieg of the Lady Dutch finished seventh with a score of 237.60. Katie Gore of DuBois was eighth with 226.65 points and Megan Blake of Brookville was ninth with 84.40 points.
The divers will now advance to the 2010-2011 PIAA District 6-9 Regional Diving championships on Friday, March 4 at Penn State University. The top divers at the Regional meet will advance to the State Meet at Bucknell University on March 16-17.
