SMA gymnasts record fourth win of the season

The St. Marys Area gymnastics team recorded their fourth win of the season last night as they defeated the Ridgway squad by a 129.2250 to 108.7750 score at the St. Marys Area Middle School gym.Molly Eshbach set a new school record on the vault last night with a score of 9.3500.“The team brought it all tonight. The kids are finally hitting their beam routines and are improving on their bar routines, which is significantly making a difference in our team score,” said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless.“We hit our highest score of the season, just barely missing the record, which is set at 130 for St. Marys. We had a lot of great performances. Molly Eshbach set a new vault record of 9.35, which was set by Toni Donachy in 1992. The outstanding performances and team score boosted the morale of the team tremendously,” McCandless said.“We know we are trailing one team, and they (SMAHS gymnasts) are now desperately trying to be competitive enough to try and outscore them,” she added.SMA’s Molly Eshbach set a new record in the vault with a score of 9.3500 to take first. Michaela Sorg of the Dutch took second with an 8.500, with teammate Justin Huey taking third with an 8.400. Megan Longhi of the Dutch was fourth with an 8.200. Other Dutch scores were Abby Wittman with an 8.0500. For Ridgway, Amanda Aiello tied for fourth with an 8.200, while Kayla Pavlock tied for sixth with an 8.0500. Troy Huggler had an 8.00, Kylee Reynolds 7.600 and Michele Buhler 7.150.SMA’s Justin Huey won the uneven bars with a score of 8.0250. Eshbach was second with a 7.850. Sorg took third with a 7.4350, followed by Longhi with a 7.1250. Other St. Marys scores were Abby Wittman with a 6.6250. For Ridgway, Aiello had a 6.4, Carissa Imdorf 5.2750, Gabby Benninger 4.1250, Reynolds 4.05, and Hannah Lampman 3.6750.Megan Longhi of the Dutch won the balance beam with an 8.2750. Eshbach was second with a 7.8, followed by Sorg 7.7750 and Mackenzie Neureiter 7.7250. Bobbi Fox had a 6.4750 for St. Marys. For Ridgway, Lampman had a 7.700, Reynolds 6.825, Gabbi Hoffman 6.550, Jenna Hoffman 6.1750 and Courtney Bush 4.7000.Eshbach won the floor exercise with an 8.650. Longhi took second with an 8.2750, followed by Sorg with an 8.0500. Ridgway’s Lampman was fourth with a 7.8250. Other St. Marys scores were Neureiter 7.800 and Wittman 6.9500. For Ridgway, Pavlock and Reynolds 7.700, Aiello 6.600 and Jenna Hoffman 6.550.Molly Eshbach took first in the all-around with a total of 33.650. She was followed by teammates Megan Longhi, 31.875 and Michaela Sorg 31.750. Ridgway’s Kylee Reynolds was fourth with a 26.175 total.In exhibition for St. Marys, Bobbi Fox had a 7.05 in the vault. Mackenzie Neureiter had a 7.8 in the vault and a 5.15 in the uneven bars. Laurel Pierotti had a 2.675. Justin Huey had a 6.1 in floor exercise and Abbi Wittman had a 6.525 in balance beam.In exhibition for Ridgway, Sam Covac had a 7.3 in vault, 2.55 in bars and 5.525 in floor. Carissa Imdorf had a 6.0250 in beam. Amanda Aiello had a 4.775 in beam. Gabby Benninger had a 7.4 in vault and a 6.35 in floor.St. Marys returns to action Saturday, Feb. 5 when they travel to Bellefonte to face off with the top team in the league, the Bellefonte Raiders.
