ST. MARYS - Both squads of the St. Marys Area swim and dive teams scored big victories on Thursday night at the Dutch Natatorium over the visiting Brookville Raiders. The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Raiders 131-32 while the Dutchmen won their meet by a 122-31 margin.
There were many multiple winners for the Lady Dutch, who won all of their individual events. Lauren McAnany was first in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles; Kylee Proudfit placed first in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard breaststroke; Emma Daghir won the 50 and 100 yard freestyles and Michaela Rupprecht came out on top in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard breaststroke. Maranda Leidwinger also added an individual win in diving.
The 200 yard medley relay of Melinda Stebich, Daghir, Rupprecht and Proudfit won the very first event on the evening. Later the 200 yard freestyle relay of Daghir, Rupprecht, McAnany and Proudfit added another relay win. The exhibition swim of the 400 yard freestyle relay of McAnany, Cassie Wonderling, Maranda Leidwinger and Stebich also took top honors.
The Dutchmen were also impressive, winning all but two events on the evening. The sole double individual winner was Andrew Cotter in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke.
Single event winners were Matt Hoffman in the 200 yard individual medley, Jake Burns in diving, Alex Renwick in the 100 yard butterfly, Jeffrey Moore in the 500 yard freestyle and Corey Koss in the 100 yard backstroke.
Relay winners were Corey Koss, Cotter, Renwick and Ryan Struble in the 200 yard medley; and Renwick, Hoffman, Ryan Struble and Cotter in the 200 yard freestyle. In the final unscored event, Corey Koss, Hoffman, Moore and Renwick were first in exhibition.
“We changed things up a little bit tonight so some people were swimming off events,” said SMA coach Mark DeMuro. “This gave the kids a good chance to test themselves, but they still swam competitively so they should feel good about that.”
Later DeMuro added, “We are seeing some real impressive solid performances from some of our newer swimmers and divers. Besides being a confidence booster for them, it is a great sign of things to come and we as coaches are pleased.”
The Dutchmen remain perfect on the season with their record now 5-0, while the Lady Dutch improved to 2-3. The squads will host Central Mountain on Monday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the SMAHS Natatorium.
