SMAHS students celebrate Pi Day

March 14, 2014

March 14, or 3-14, is the date that corresponds with the first three digits of the irrational and transcendental number pi, and the day is often recognized as a holiday of sorts to honor the number. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and its digits continue infinitely without repetition. In celebration of Pi Day, students at St. Marys Area High School held an assembly on Friday afternoon, using the occasion as a fundraiser as well as to enjoy pie-themed events such as a pie-eating contest and giving students the opportunity to pie some of their teachers.
